Ann Snitow May 9, 1943-August 10, 2019 Ann Snitow, a founding faculty member of Lang College and the creator of the Gender Studies Program at the New School, passed away on August 10, 2019. She was a beloved member of the Literary Studies faculty. While indeed her books and essays are crucial texts in feminist studies and in the life of the mind, as Literary Studies colleagues our remembrances here are more personal, testaments not just to her work but to the power of her being.

This year’s Afrofuturism Conference—happening April 29 to May 1 in New York—will be a series of “art happenings, performances, lectures, panels, workshops, film music, scholarly works, and community events” organized by students from The New School. Like last year, the conference will explore “Afrofuturism as a cultural and aesthetic movement for the radical emancipation of people of color,” but with a particular focus on virality. Submissions for the annual magazine close Friday, February 25, but are accepted on a rolling basis. You can find more information about the magazine and the submission guidelines at https://www.collision.pitt.edu.
Founded in 2001, Collision Literary Magazine publishes undergraduate writing and art from all over the world. Collision accepts fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry, and art, with a particular interest in experimental work that challenges style and structure. It is a student-run publication housed under the English Department at the University of Pittsburgh.
