Call for Submissions — The Paper Shell Review

The Paper Shell Review, the University of Maryland’s only undergraduate journal of essays on literary topics, is now accepting submissions. The introductions to our past journals have been written by notable faculty members, including Michael Dirda, a Pulitzer Prize-winning book critic, and Michael Olmert, a three-time Primetime Emmy winner.

The Paper Shell Review Submission Guidelines:

Undergraduate students from any accredited institution of higher education may submit papers to The Paper Shell Review. Submission by a single author should not exceed three essays. E-mail essays as Microsoft Word attachments to papershellreview@gmail.com. Submissions for this year’s issue will be accepted until Wednesday, March 2, 2022 at 11:59pm (EST).

All papers must be double-spaced, in Times New Roman font, numbered, and formatted with one-inch margins. Papers should not exceed 20 pages, but exceptions may be made for essays of superb quality. Essays must follow the Modern Language Association style guidelines as defined in the MLA Guidelines for Writers of Research Papers (latest edition).

The e-mail body accompanying any paper should include the author’s full name, undergraduate institution, current year (freshman, sophomore, junior, or senior), paper title, and contact information (e-mail, phone number, current address, and permanent address).

The journal is published in print in April and online in May on the UMD English Department website. This is a great opportunity for the talented undergraduates at The New School to get published and share their work with a larger community!
